How to sell on Vinted
Did you know the average person only wears an item of clothing seven to ten times?! This fast fashion throwaway culture has worsened over recent years however, I’m super happy to see the rise in popularity for buying secondhand. Websites such as Vinted and eBay are a couple of the most used for giving clothes a new home.
What is Vinted?
Vinted is an extremely popular website and app that lets you list your unwanted items such as clothing and people will buy from you just like they would if they were online shopping. It’s a win-win situation because you make some extra money and they get something new for an absolute bargain!
Getting started on Vinted
Step one is to literally just create your account! It is so simple, don’t use your real name and you don’t even have to upload a photo of yourself if you don’t want to.
Then find the things you want to sell! I’m having a huge wardrobe clear out and being really strict on myself with things I just know I’ll never wear again, and some things I’ve never actually worn in the first place! Oops!
Make sure they are still good quality but if they do have any damage at all, make sure you get pictures of the damage and write about it on the listing. No one wants to be caught out!
Tips for taking high quality photos
You want to be taking the best quality pictures possible so really think about your background and lighting when doing this. Remember you’re trying to sell something, it has to look appealing! Get at least one photo of the full item from the front, and I like to take close up photos of any detailing or writing. I also take a photo of the label which shows the brand name and the size..
Once you’ve got your pictures, you just need to list them with a compelling description.
Tips for writing descriptions
Feel free to find the exact item on its original website and copy some of the key words they use, especially the exact title of the item. Also make sure to include any extra information… has it only been worn once, is the tag still on it, is it true to size or does it come up too big? Think about all the things you’d want to know if you were the potential buyer. The more info, the better!
Pricing your items on Vinted
Do some research into what the item actually costs brand new then consider how worn it is when setting your new price. It’s often a good idea to not go too low as people will likely try to haggle and get the price down.
What you’re really trying to do is set a competitive price that’s low enough that people want to buy, but it also needs to be profitable and worth your time. I personally won’t be selling anything for £1 for example because it just seems like more effort than it’s actually worth. Remember you’re packaging and posting all these items yourself.
Packaging your items
Once you start selling, you need to be packaging your items in a… fairly decent way!
I’ve seen some people receive items in crisp packets! I honestly think you don’t have to go out of your way to buy any nice packaging because remember you need to be making a profit otherwise… what’s the point? Anything that’s secure and waterproof will do absolutely fine.
Also make sure you understand Vinteds shipping options and costs, as this may affect how you get a refund if this ever comes up.
Some final Vinted tips
All you have to do now is provide excellent customer service and communication with any buyers. And a huge tip I’ve learnt is if something isn’t selling and it’s been up for a while, just take it down and relist it… it’s also a good idea to list something new everyday.
